Pleasanton, CA— May 5, 2017 — NextHome is proud to announce our newest addition to the franchise, NextHome NW Realty. The brokerage is the sixth NextHome franchise location in the state of Oregon.
This is the second location of the NextHome NW Realty network. The office will be operated by veteran real estate broker, Kurt Kalimanis, while Dustin Slack will assist on the leadership team as a co-owner.
Based out of Bend, NextHome NW Realty will service the local communities of Bend, Redmond, and the remainder of the Deschutes County area.
Known for its many outdoor activities, the city of Bend is home to nearly 80,000 residents. In 2015, Men’s Journal named Bend as one of the 10 Best Places to Live Now.
The brokerage will provide sales services for residential, land properties, investment properties, first-time home buyers, second homes, and vacation homes.
Licensed since 1994, Kalimanis started his real estate career in Arizona when his wife, Linda, took a job that relocated them from Oregon. He started with a local RE/MAX brokerage and worked there for three years before the couple moved back to Oregon in 1997.
Kalimanis stayed with the RE/MAX brand after returning to Portland and sold real estate for the company until 2003. That year, Kalimanis realized he no longer found value in the brand name and wanted to find a company where he could re-invest back into his marketing and technology.
“I learned a lot during my years working with RE/MAX,” said Kalimanis. “But I wanted to advance the technology for myself and my agents, so I went to work at a place where I could achieve that.”
Kalimanis moved to Oregon Realty in 2003 and worked at the company for nearly a decade. His sales grew and he was seeing upwards of 35 transactions annually.
In 2013, Kalimanis bought into a real estate franchise and over the next two years, built the brokerage to 14 agents. While happy about what he was able to create, it was a lack of service from the franchise that disappointed him.
“Real estate franchises are supposed to assist in helping the local broker, but unfortunately, the franchise that I signed with couldn’t deliver,” said Kalimanis.
One positive that came from the experience was meeting brokerage owner Dustin Slack, who later introduced Kalimanis to NextHome.
“Dustin and I met while being a part of the other real estate franchise,” recalls Kalimanis. “He’s such a tech forward, progressive broker, that when he told me about NextHome, I had to listen.”
Once Kalimanis signed with NextHome, he came out to California for corporate training and found the franchise to be nothing like the previous experiences he had.
“In my opinion, being successful isn’t solely about the money. It’s also about enjoying what you do,” said Kalimanis. “Being in California and meeting the NextHome corporate team, I can see why so many brokers are happy they made the switch. The franchise has a synergy that I see my brokerage having similarly on a local level.”
When Kalimanis is not selling real estate, he and Linda focus on family by spending time with their son Tyler (23 years old) and daughter Sierra (13).
“Tyler is a student at Oregon State, so we spend as much time with him as we can,” said Kalimanis. “But Linda, Sierra and I have a standing Friday night tradition. No phones. No computers. We order pizza and watch a movie on Friday nights. It’s our chance to unplug from the world and be a family together.”
We are proud to have Kurt, Dustin and the rest of their team at NextHome NW Realty and congratulate them on the opening of their new NextHome location!
