Brian Morrill
I am a captain of my own ship both literally and figuratively. I have taken many routes less traveled in life which I believe has contributed to my unique characteristics of being conscientious and to the development of my strong sense of integrity.
I served honorably in the United States Army prior to a professional career in public service. I was fortunate to begin my career in Emergency Management in 2003 when I had the opportunity to work as a Hazard Mitigation Planner with the Georgia Department of Homeland Security/Emergency Management Agency. This was a great job and my area of responsibility consisted of 48 counties and 175 municipalities throughout the State of Georgia where I provided technical assistance in developing and reviewing mitigation plans and grant applications. In 2006, I joined IEM as a Senior Planner with a unique opportunity to support FEMA as a contract planner in developing response plans for a New Madrid Seismic Zone earthquake. This project was the largest FEMA catastrophic planning initiative to date involving eight states and four FEMA Regions. I was assigned as the lead senior planner to work with the State of Illinois where I assisted in developing Emergency response plans and coordinated planning efforts between the State of Illinois and FEMA until the contract ended in 2009. During this time I briefly continued contracting work with Integrated Solutions Consulting prior to joining FEMA Region V in 2010. I joined the FEMA team as an Emergency Management Specialist where I continued to specialize in catastrophic planning, serving as the lead planner for New Madrid Seismic Zone earthquake planning as well as other important planning efforts such as the Region V Pandemic plan. After serving 8 years with FEMA Region V in Chicago, I joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers team in Rock Island, IL as a Community Planner in 2018 to move closer to my family and friends in the Quad City Area. Since 2018, I’ve realized my passion lies in other areas. I began to work part-time as a maritime captain on the Quad City Channel Cat which helped me discover my new course. I am still navigating the waters of the Mississippi River but I’m also charting a course into real estate. I’m currently licensed in Illinois and Iowa and enjoy working in the Quad Cities and surrounding communities as the "Real Estate Captain."
